How to start wine tasting? Using the Vivino app is like having your personal sommelier

It will be hard to taste wine from all types of grapes in a single lifetime. Vivino helps you manage this complexity. Try it.

There are more than 10,000 wine grapes types in the world. Wine is not made from all of them, but there are still enough varieties it will be hard to taste all of them in a single lifetime. Vivino helps you manage this complexity. Try it.

Everyone knows that every beginning is difficult. One of the main challenges of starting out is not coming across as stupid, clumsy, or less than what you expect of yourself. This is especially important in a group where there is one who knows everything. That’s exactly how I felt when I started trying the wines, which carry with them an air of nobility.

(No one will look you in the eye if you don’t know what Double IPA craft beer is, but it’s different with wine…)

Its complicated world

There are more than 10,000 wine grapes types in the world. Wine is not made from all of them, but there are still enough varieties it will be hard to taste all of them in a single lifetime.

If we take into account that wine types are mixed into blends and that different wineries make different wines from the same grape… and when we add that we get different wines from different harvests

The point is clear: you will not gonna make it, but it doesn’t need to paralyze you – it should give you the freedom to taste, explore and find what you like. The Vivino app helps you just there.

How does Vivino work and help?

The Vivino app makes good use of the smartphone’s built-in camera, with options to scan a bottle in a wine store to see ratings and reviews before making a purchase and to scan a wine list at a restaurant to compare ratings in order to make the best possible selection.

This helps a lot when you are in a supermarket and there are 1000 bottles with 100 of them in your price range. Just pull out your camera, scan, and see how this wine is matching your wine profile. (Your personal wine profile is made when you start reviewing wine – the algorithm learns about your taste and suggests you your next best wine).

Each wine overview page has tons of useful information to help users make a decision, including price comparisons, helpful reviews, and an image of the bottle and label. Users can save their favorite wines, so they always have a log of the ones they love.

You can read also the opinions of other Vivino users. They should not guide your decision but it’s always nice to see and compare your findings with the comment from the sommeliers with 1000 or 5000 wine reviews.

The Vivino app is an excellent educational resource, also. It packages a huge amount of content into a digestible, easily navigable format. This lessons teaches you about the wine regions and wine styles. Every lesson is finished with a challenge to taste and review the wine mentioned in a particular lesson, which brings gamification to the table. Sharing these stories and tastes with partner, family, and friends is a great activity.
